Greetings from Our Executive Director
"Education is the not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." - William Butler Yeats

Welcome to the Montclair Community Pre-K! We are a caring community of learners made up of educators, students and their families. Together, we are partners in your child's education, a partnership that we take seriously.

It is our hope to create an atmosphere where all children feel needed, cared for, and heard. We want our classrooms to be a safe place where children are respected as individuals and challenged in a way that meets their individual needs.

We know that play is the central force in furthering that development. While children play they are thinking, negotiating, taking risks, and experimenting, exploring, making decisions, problem-solving, socializing and inquiring. Play-based learning also informs our age-appropriate curriculum, which includes a clear focus on young children's social maturity. Children's cognitive, social, motor and language development are all interconnected, as are their personal and emotional development. When all of these elements come together in a focused and nurturing environment, children grow, evolve and mature.

Preschool is a magical time in young children's lives, and we are honored to join them in their joyful explorations. We embrace this time of discovery of self and others, with an eye towards preparing our children to become active learners in kindergarten and beyond. Together with their families, we help children to reach their full potential as caring, kind, successful and productive members of society.

This year will mark my third as executive director of MCPK and my 25th as a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade educator. Simply put, this is the BEST job I have ever had. My career has been dedicated to the idea that all children deserve excellence in their education, no matter their background or circumstances. I am incredibly honored to bring this belief to fruition and lead such an important early childhood program in my own town of Montclair, at the very school where my eldest girls are alumni and my youngest children proudly call their own.

I hope that you will join the MCPK family so that together we can ensure an outstanding start for your children and the children of this community.
